Story Of The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

In November 2022, I headed out to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar to work on the full tournament with the Infotainment team. I was the lead motion designer on the team, and our focus for the tournament was creating content which would be played to the live audiences of the games through the giant screen at each stadium.

Our team was tasked with creating a video which lead to the final, and this piece would be played at Lusail Stadium for the final match. For this piece I worked with Vadym Sklyaruk who did the editing and James Rowat who was the producer. It was my job to come up with a concept and an idea which linked each section of the edit together. I decided to incorporate the environment the World Cup was in and integrate key moments from each stage of the tournament.

I used Cinema4D and Redshift to model, light, texture and render the desert landscape. I then brought it into After Effects, where I did the compositing. I also used Trapcode Particular to create dust reveals of each player.

The VT was played out at the FIFA World Cup Final to 88,966 supporters in attendance at Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
